This is a very nice package that offers a Sumatra overland journey from the North to the West, showcasing the best attractions in Sumatra. The package features the Berastagi mountain resort, Lake Toba, Parapat, Samosir Island, Padang Sidempuan, and the Bukittinggi Highlands.
Day 01: Medan Arrival, then Transfer to Berastagi
Include: Dinner at a local restaurant and accommodation in Berastagi.
Upon arrival at Polonia Airport, Medan (morning arrival required), we will provide a meet-and-greet service and then drive westward to Berastagi, a refreshing mountain resort located about a two-hour drive from Medan. En route, we will visit the traditional Batak Karo tribal village of Peceran, where ancient houses are still in use, and also visit the colorful local market. Overnight in Berastagi.
Day 02: Berastagi to Samosir Island
Include: Breakfast at the hotel, lunch at a local restaurant, dinner, and accommodation on Samosir Island.
In the morning, enjoy a leisurely drive to Parapat, located on the eastern shore of Lake Toba. En route, visit Sipisopiso to view the slender waterfall that cascades into Lake Toba. Also visit the ancient Palace of King Simalungun at Pematang Purba. Upon arrival in Parapat, continue the journey by motorboat for about 45 minutes across Lake Toba to Samosir Island for an overnight stay.
Day 03: Samosir Island Tour
Include: Breakfast at the hotel, lunch at a local restaurant, dinner, and accommodation on Samosir Island.
This full-day tour by motorboat will explore the surrounding islands. The first visit will be to the Batak Toba village of Tomok to see the ancient tomb of King Sidabutar. Continue to Ambarita, a traditional village featuring ancient megalithic furniture in front of the traditional houses. Then visit the village of Simanindo to witness a traditional folk dance performance by the Batak Toba people.
In the afternoon, return to the hotel.
Day 04: Parapat to Padang Sidempuan
Include: Breakfast at the hotel, lunch and dinner at a local restaurant, and accommodation in Padang Sidempuan.
Cross back to Parapat by ferry boat. Upon arrival in Parapat, continue to Padang Sidempuan via Sibolga Gulf, a small harbor city and beach resort located 180 km from Parapat. En route, visit Lumban Garapa Village to see another traditional Batak Toba village, and also visit Balige, a small town known for its richly ornamented market building.
Then drive along the mountainous and winding roads from the town of Tarutung via Sibolga to Padang Sidempuan for an overnight stay.
Day 05: Padang Sidempuan to Bukittinggi
Include: Breakfast at the hotel, lunch and dinner at a local restaurant, and accommodation in Bukittinggi.
Today’s journey crosses the province from the North to the West. Although the drive is rather long, it is worthwhile, offering beautiful scenery of mountains, rivers, valleys, and traditional villages. En route, stop at the Equator Monument, which will surely be a memorable highlight of your journey. Then continue to Bukittinggi, the charming heart of the Minangkabau Highlands, for an overnight stay.
Day 06: Bukittinggi
Include: Breakfast at the hotel, lunch and dinner at a local restaurant, and accommodation in Bukittinggi.
Enjoy a full-day tour exploring the beautiful town of the Minangkabau Highlands. A photo stop will be made at Bukittinggi’s landmark, the Jam Gadang “Big Ben,” followed by visits to the traditional market, the museum, and Ngarai Sianok, the magnificent valley.
Continue to Koto Gadang, renowned for its fine silverwork and hand embroidery, and also visit the traditional villages of Lima Kaum and Pariangan. Return to Bukittinggi for an overnight stay.
Day 07: Bukittinggi to Padang
Include: Breakfast at the hotel, lunch and dinner at a local restaurant, and accommodation at a hotel in Padang.
Today, depart from Bukittinggi to Padang with a scenic two-hour drive through the beautiful countryside. Upon arrival in Padang, we will provide transfer service to the hotel. The remainder of the day is free at your leisure to explore the capital city of West Sumatra Province.
Day 08: Padang Departure
Include: Breakfast at the hotel.
The morning will be free at your leisure until the scheduled departure time. We will then provide a transfer to the airport for your onward flight to your next destination.
