Discovery Papandayan & Merapi Tour

Mount Papandayan is a complex stratovolcano. At the summit, there are four large craters, and it contains active fumaroles fields. The 1772 eruption caused the NE flank to collapse, producing a catastrophic debris avalanche. Since then only small eruptions had occurred prior to another explosive eruption that began in November 2002.

Mount Merapi is the most active volcano in Indonesia and has erupted regularly since 1548. Although smoke can be seen emerging from the mountaintop at least 300 days a year, several eruptions have caused fatalities in hot gas from a large explosion in 1994. Another large eruption occurred in 2006, shortly before the Yogyakarta earthquake.

Day 1: JAKARTA ARRIVAL to BANDUNG

Include Accommodation at the Hotel in Bandung.

Pick-up service at 07:00 at any hotel where you stay in Jakarta. Or meet and greet with our guide at Jakarta Soekarno Hatta Airport. We will provide transfer by car directly to the city of Bandung in West Java, it is about a 160 km journey or about 2.5 drives from Jakarta via tollway. Upon arrival in Bandung then check in Hotel for overnight accommodation.

Day 2: BANDUNG

Drive right up to the rim of Tangkuban Perahu Volcano where you can gaze into the bubbling mud and sulfur below. A favorite spot of volcanic activity to visit is the Domas Crater, located about a kilometer down the northeastern slope. Proceed to the Local restaurant for lunch. Afternoon visits the Saung Angklung Udjo, and enjoy the traditional bamboo music orchestra.

Day 3: BANDUNG to TASIK MALAYA

Include Breakfast at a Hotel, Lunch at a Local Restaurant, and Accommodation in Tasik Malaya.

This morning leaving Bandung, after about 64 km drive we will reach Garut to visit Kawah Kamojang Crater; it is a field of geysers surrounded by forest which is nestled in the mountain range. Continue our journey another 57 km to reach Tasik Malaya. En route, we will visit Kampung Naga village which is inhabited by a community in a very strong tradition of holding the remainder of ancestors. The community is living in the framework of an atmosphere of traditional simplicity and environmental wisdom. Continue onto Tasik Malaya.

Day 4: TASIK MALAYA

Early in the morning, we will climb to the Papandayan volcano. Papandayan is a particularly rewarding excursion: it erupted spectacularly in 2001 and produced a lateral blast similar to Mt. St. Helens in 1980 which devastated the area and left a bizarre moon-like landscape: ash and block deserts, steaming craters with turquoise lakes, violently hissing fumaroles and sulfur deposits, boiling mud pools, stinking rivers of foul water in different colors, charred trees that were stripped off, un-rooted and buried by recent pyroclastic flows. Also, visit the hydrothermal area near Cipanas with its numerous hot springs.

Day 5: TASIK MALAYA to WONOSOBO

Include Breakfast at the Hotel, Lunch at a local Restaurant, and Accommodation at the Hotel in Wonosobo.

It will be a long leisurely drive from Garut to Wonosobo (a drive of about 7-8 hours), in the morning we will visit Kampung Naga village which is inhabited by a community with a very strong tradition of holding the remainder of ancestors. The community is living in the framework of an atmosphere of traditional simplicity and environmental wisdom. Continue onto Wonosobo and upon arrival, we will transfer to the hotel for overnight.

Day 6: WONOSOBO to YOGYAKARTA

Include Breakfast at the Hotel, Lunch at a local Restaurant, and Accommodation at the Hotel in Yogyakarta.

After breakfast, it will be a leisurely morning drive of about 27 km up to the Dieng plateau. This 2093-meter high plateau has a number of interesting scenery; along the journey, you will see a dramatic Mountain View. We will visit Pendawa Lima Temples and Sikidang Crater. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant en route. On the way to Jogja, visit the monumental temple of Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple in Asia.

Day 7: MERAPI VOLCANO EXCURSION

Include Breakfast at the Hotel, Lunch at a local Restaurant, and Accommodation at the Hotel in Yogyakarta.

After a short drive of about 1.5 hours, we will reach Cangkringan village, a short more distance to reach Umbul Harjo or Kali Adem from here we will ride a 4wd Jeep to explore the ground dominated with sands and stones from the Merapi volcano eruption in 2007, it is so amazing! Sometimes, Merapi Peak is seen so clearly without any equipment or tools because it is so close. Return to Yogyakarta.

Day 8: YOGYAKARTA departure

Include Breakfast at the Hotel, Lunch at a local Restaurant.

In the morning a sightseeing tour of Yogyakarta to visit Kraton Yogyakarta “Sultan Palace” which was built in stages between 1756 and 1790 by Yogya's founder Sultan Hamengkubuwono the First, it is a splendid example of traditional Javanese court architecture. Proceed to Prambanan, the temple of the Slender Virgin which is also well-known as a complex of Lorojonggrang, generally considered Java’s most elegant and prying temple, noted for the graceful proportions of its 47 meters central Siva temple. In the afternoon transfer service to the airport will be provided to reach your flight heading to your onward destination.
